MS Wildlife Management - Black Prairie Ecosystem Mississippi
Blackbelt Prairie Ecosystem in MississippiPrairie Wildlife Preserve (PWP) is located on 6,000 acres in the heart of the Black Belt of Mississippi. Our objective here at PWP is to provide quality outdoor experiences through quality wildlife management.

Guests can enjoy wild and liberated quail hunting, White-tailed deer hunting, bird watching, and horseback riding. Although our commercial hunting and wildlife watching activities are fairly new, intensive wildlife management has been going on our 6000 acre property for over 10 years. With the restoration of Northern Bobwhite as our goal, PWP has been committed to actively restoring and managing native prairie habitat on our property in northeast Mississippi.

Currently we have established hundreds of acres of native warm season grasses and wildflowers. Also, a myriad of shrub and native grass corridors and field borders are being created and maintained. While numbers of Northern Bobwhite are declining across the southeast, our quail numbers here at PWP are increasing due to intensive habitat management.

PWP works with the Wildlife and Fisheries Department at Mississippi State University to conduct habitat research and covey monitoring to aid in restoring the Northern Bobwhite on our property and other properties across our state. Although quail management is our main objective, our intensive wildlife habitat management has also benefited our deer and song bird populations.

Very little deer hunting has been allowed on the farm, and as a result, we have many mature bucks that reside on our property. Whether it be wing shooting wild quail on old field edges, hunting trophy bucks near a limestone creek bed, birding in restored native prairie habitat, or just a peaceful horseback ride through the prairie, we can accommodate you here at Prairie Wildlife Preserve.
